  How Many Here Are "Technically" Still JWs???... Who's Not??

  what i mean is according to the society, there are a number of persons that are "technically" "inactive" yet are viewed as jws still.

  i'm sure that i'm viewed as a witness still because i am not df'd or disassociated.....what about you??

  I'm not sure what they'd call me, since I was never baptised, but I was raised in he "truth", though by my last years of high school we weren't going regularly and never did field service. In college, I mostly distanced myself, with spurts of regular Sunday attendance when the guilt woudl hit me. This was the first year I didn't go to the Memorial. My mom called me that night to tell me my dad had partaken - and I do wonder at the eyebrows that must have raised, since he doesn't attend very regularly, and no one else in his family does either.

  Anyway, I'm guessing I'm either inactive or no londer considered a witness.

  Do your acquaintances know you?re a JW (or former witness)?

  i remember deliberately not telling people when i was growing up, and cringing when my mom made an effort to tell my teachers.

  although i no longer hide it, there are still people i consider friends who do not know i grew up jw.

  sometimes it?s just that the subject of religion does not come up often, and when it does, it would be weird to say something now after i?ve known someone for years and have never mentioned it.

  I guess I didn?t really explain myself well, but I did so partly on purpose cause I wanted to hear some general answers.

  What I meant was, when I meet new people now and religion for some reason comes up, I have no problem telling people about my past. The thing is, in the past I have discussed religion in some depth with friends and even some of my professors, while not disclosing the fact that my parents raised me as a witness. Now, I just don?t know how to gracefully provide the information.

  In retrospect, I think it was cause of some kind of shame left over from childhood that I initially hid it.

  This kind of stuff I?m interested in reading myself, though so far I?ve kept more grounded. It?s too hard sometimes to suspend belief.

  Was I Not Having Fun?

  years ago, when i was just a little lad, my dad would often quote the above passage from the scriptures to me.. "was i not having fun?".

  usually, i would be about to be reprimanded for having been a little too cheeky.

  i would fall back on an "i was only kidding!

  This reminds me of a talk given by a visiting elder once, I must have been about 12 or 13, in which he very emphatically and insistently condemned fun. I think he repeated "fun is foolishness" (or something equally as apalling to a 12 yr old) several times. I remember leaving the hall thinking, "well, that's no fun."
